to build on the talent engine that was newsjack on 4extra the bbc wanted more avenues for young talent to break through.
Step in newsjack unplugged. the original idea was adnan ahmed’s. He is a commissioner at sky now. as one of my first jobs at bbc studios i was put in charge of making this work as a podcast.
we made three series of it before newsjack proper was discontinued. it was an incredible grounding in topical comedy and working at speed. each episode recorded 12 hours before it was released to be as up-to-the-minute as possible. We tried three presenters before we settled on darren harriot and had nearly every young comedy actor working today in to fill in the scenes.
it was written by mike shepherd, laura major, kat sadler and catherine brinkworth.
no listen link for this one, being topical comedy the episodes have an expiry date of about 25 minutes.
tech tech boom
A sketch show from the makers of the mash report.
it imagines that social media companies and their owners go off the deep end and start trying to take over the world. That was funny in 2021…
Starring greig johnson, olga koch and greig johnson. with a frankly brilliant cast of extra voices including tom bell, freya parker & natasha hodgson.
recorded mostly like you would a tech infotainment show. quick, dirty, on location.
I directed, recorded, edited, sound designed and composed the music for this one.

relocation
Robin morgan’s radio wales sitcom about a couple who witness a muder and have to move to rural wales for their own safety.
A fun job this. Robin hadn’t written or directed for radio before and zipline, the company had never made a sitcom. so they brought me in to fill a lot of gaps of their knowledge.
I recorded it, was a kind of dop for radio for robin and i edited & sound designed.
hector vs the future
I made this with twin james-geniuses James huntrods and james hamilton while i was working as a runner at hat trick. they both write for telly now. Hamilton has had a couple of netflix cartoons.
we recorded it live at the etcetera theatre in camden and i edited late at night in my bedroom.
